Exploring Provence, France-Genius of Van Gough During his life Vincent van Gough visited and stayed at Saint-Remy-de-Provence. In what we know he was on the Spectrum at a time when Mental Health was primitive at best. He sought out nature and art as a way to understand his mind, techniques used today. The way he described light led some to believe he experienced vision problems, seeing halos around stars. When he could do no more he admitted himself to a hospital there, St-Paul-de-Mausole for help and stayed from May 1889 to May 1890. While there he painted some 150 oil paintings & 100 drawings over the course of a year. The town and hospital have an interpretative walk to places he visited and thought to have painted, and a museum at the hospital to honor him!
